History

The site where The Lord Combermere is situated has been a public house for generations and has been redeveloped several times in recent years.

It's now very much at the centre of life in Audlem providing a relaxing family environment where all are welcome.

Our Village

Audlem (population 1,790 in a civil parish of 2,348 acres) stands at the intersection of the roads from Nantwich (Cheshire) to Market Drayton (Shropshire) and Newcastle (Staffordshire) to Whitchurch (Shropshire).

The oldest part of the village is the core at the "T" intersection of the two main roads where The Lord Combermere is situated.

The Doomsday Book's (1086) entry for Audlem ("Aldelime") refers only to fields, woodland, agriculture and hunting. However, by the late 13th century the church had been founded and Audlem's market charter was granted by Edward I in 1296.

Audlem really is Cheshire's southern gem, a picturesque rural village with incredible community spirit. In 2005 the village won the Defra national award for 'Building Community Life' and the 'North of England Village of the Year' as well as the 'Cheshire Village of the Year'.
